Losing time

Gonzo's not eating. We haven't seen him take a bite of real food in days. He's losing weight, and fast. His ribs and spine are quite visible. Where he once had a big, round belly, there is now barely anything. It makes me angry to think about what's going on inside there.

We've bought him soft ferret food and duck soup, but the only thing he seems to be interested in are the little Bandit treats. And he seems to have a hard time chewing them.

I woke up this morning early, afraid to look in the cage. But I did, and saw him breathing. Relief. He dozed a little while I scratched his back, then woke and yawned and decided he wanted out of the cage. I gave him a treat. But he once again shunned the soup and the soft food, and just crawled inside a sweater on the floor.

We have to do something this week.

He is a good and fortunate boy to have y'all as his People. (Or Playthings, as he probably refers to y'all.)

We will be sending up prayers of comfort and peace for y'all and for him. Please give him a smooch and a skritch from us, and give yourselves one, too.

I'm praying for Gonzo as well. Get him to the vet when you can, and if it is his time to go, rejoice that you were able to give him so much.

Thank you both so much. We really have been fortunate for him to hang on so long.
