Busy little bee-yotch

Forgive my nerdiness for saying so, but I've had a productive day. Phil and I took the ferrets to the park to frolic, and explained to a couple of curious pot-smoking bums — one of whom said he was allergic to ferrets — all about little Felix and Gonz and their silly habits.

Then Grandmaw came up to visit for a bit. She's in town taking a class to update her AARP driver instructor status. She wanted to stroll down memory lane by eating at the Pancho's on Summer, which she and my grandfather apparently used to eat at so often that the bartender knew their drinks without ever having to ask. She told us about how Summer used to be the hoppin' strip back in the '60s and '70s. Even before that, she and her cousins would get into the theaters on Summer (which is now a porno theater) and Park (which is now boarded up) for free because the old man who owned them was sort of sweet on the girls. She said they'd watch both shows — the early blacks-only show and the late whites-only show — from the projection room, and that the white crowd always behaved so badly.

I told her that Skateland had burned down, and she said it was just a shame how run-down the area had become in the past decade or two. It's mostly deserted but the parts that aren't just look broken and scary. But those suburbs, they are a'boomin'.

The rest of my night I spent slaving lovingly over a hot keyboard, making Cheryl a new template. When I finally reached a triumphant stopping point, I decided to pop open IE to take a gander, and nearly barfed when it was all kinds of screwed up. Safari renders things so nicely, but there IE was, ready to squat on my hard work and relieve itself. So, to get a third opinion, I downloaded Firefox, finally, and it read the damn template beautifully. So I'm hoping that it's just the Mac version of IE that's not rendering it properly. And hopefully no one is willingly using that browser anymore anyway.

I'd link to the template but I don't want to unveil it before Cheryl has even seen it and given me her input.

This week at work ... and every week to follow ... is going to be insane. We're starting our "aggressive zoning" tomorrow (Tuesday ... OK, today) and that's pretty much a guaranteed doubling — if not tripling — of my workload, which had already nearly doubled at the beginning of February. The good news? I'm not getting paid any extra!
