Twelve days of Death Cab

This is interesting ...

NEW YORK — Death Cab for Cutie has plans for new “Directions.”

Each song from the band’s Grammy-nominated album, “Plans,” has been made into a music video, adding up to an anthology of 12 short films titled, “Directions.”

The videos, created by 12 different directors, will be unveiled one by one on Death Cab for Cutie’s Web site early next month, it was announced Monday.

“It’s our hope that this project serves as a model to both labels and bands as a way to grant the directors the type and amount of freedom we’ve enjoyed in the creation of the music itself,” frontman Ben Gibbard said in a statement.

Band members don’t appear in the films, which were made with small budgets. The band hoped the videos would be both individual pieces and also work together as a unified whole.

“Plans,” the band’s fifth album, has a Grammy nomination for best alternative album.

Death for Cutie will be the musical guest on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on Jan. 14 with host Scarlett Johansson.
