Day 325 — Peanut

peanut — nov 21

Last time I'll call him "Peanut," I swear!

What a sweet baby. So pretty. And I don't say that flippantly; some babies are rather unfortunate looking. But little Lucas — weighing in at a robust 8 pounds, 11 ounces — is a looker.

Even when he's blowing spit bubbles.

I'm so happy for Ashley and JD. They are going to make seriously great parents.

Mazel tov!

Day 324 — Squares

[for Tuesday, Nov. 20]

squares — nov 20

Just got back from the grocery. Picked up lots of salad ingredients and fruit and cheese (note: nothing cookable) to take to the parents' Thursday. Sometimes I wonder if my mother feels like a failure for raising a daughter who can't cook for shit. Well, she shouldn't. That's all on me.

I hope my mom will be okay. She's been fighting a stomach virus of some sort for four days now. I will be carting a can of Lysol with me, just in case she's got something contagious.

In other, better news, Ashley had her baby today! No more calling him Peanut, I guess, as he's been officially dubbed Lucas Blake. I can't wait to meet him and eat his cheeks.

In other more domestic news, I am pissed off at my cats right now. It is 2 in the morning and they have, in the past fifteen minutes: Pounced the shit out of Felix, destroyed the pristine litter box, jumped into the sink to lick the dishes three times, splashed all the water out of the water bowl and tracked it onto my hardwood floors and oh so much more.

Day 273 — Ashley's Shower

ashley's shower — sept 30

She'd probably kill me if she knew I was plastering her photo all over the interwebs, but I figure by now she's used to me being the annoying person in the corner with the camera and the blog and the need to compulsively document everything.

I keep telling everyone, "Some day you'll be glad you have these pictures!" I have no idea if that's true. But it's the best argument I've got.

I was glad to see Lil Peanut get so much nice swag to use once he makes his grand entrance. Plus he's inherited several aunts, which is awesome. For spoiling and babysitting and such. We are Ashley's Sanity Insurance, always available to get her out of the house every now and again, and speak to her in multiple syllables without drooling. (If we're sober, of course.) I'm excited. I haven't had a baby around to spoil since Rylee, and I hardly ever get to see her. She's probably, like, thirteen by now.

Now. Can we talk for a minute about the food at this shower?

salad chicken salad

fruit on a stick lemon bars

brownies, cookies, and strawberries olives

And mimosas.

bubbles

Lord, these ladies do it up right.
